Uros Island
The floating islands of the Uros are located in the Bay of Puno, in the Titicaca National Reserve.
The Uros live on floating islands – a way of life they adopted a long time ago. The islands were built from the totora aquatic plant which also serves as food, medicine and raw material for handicrafts.
Historians don’t know exactly where the Uros came from and when they settled on Lake Titicaca.
Nowadays they still live from hunting, fishing, agriculture and countertrade which has always existed in this part of the world.
